Few days ago David Lee Roth Explains Van Halen’s “Tattoo” . Van Halen’s David Lee Roth has issued a new video as the singer and shares his inspiration for the lyrics to “Tattoo’s.”
Released last week, the song is the first single off VH’s forthcoming album, “A Different Kind Of Truth”, due February 7.
The folks at spin kindly summed up the video for those of us with shorter attention spans saying “Roth, in his now-patented overalls, talks about the Elvis tattoo his uncle had that inspired the single’s opening lines, plus the evolution of Crayola crayons (‘Explodo Red, great name for a color.
I’m not even sure what color that actually is, I just know it’s a great name’) and how much the ink needle hurts.” Roth says getting inked “is a rite of passage, because it really forces you to consider what’s permanent to you. What is it you really want to remember?”
“Tattoo” enters the Billboard Rock Songs chart this week at #16, with 4.6 million audience impressions on 78 stations, according to Nielsen BDS.
Van Halen’s 2012 tour kicks off February 18 in Louisville, Kentucky.
